The Business Architecture Guild is proud to announce a new release of A Guide to the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge (BIZBOK™ Guide) V3.0. As demand grows, practitioners are seeking increasingly sophisticated ways to leverage this rapidly growing discipline.

The Business Architecture Guild produces the BIZBOK™ Guide in a series of iterative stages to incorporate the practice-based experience and expertise of Guild members who represent a large and growing community of practice. Each content release builds upon previous releases, expanding the breadth of practice and depth of content. This community of practice represents hundreds of organizations, in multiple industries, across six continents.

The BIZBOK™ Guide V3.0 highlights include expanded capability mapping and value mapping sections, building on business architecture efforts underway across a number of industries. New blueprint sections address product and service mapping, initiative mapping, and stakeholder mapping. The BIZBOK™ Guide V3.0 also focuses on alignment to related business disciplines, including new practice-based sections that align business architecture with the Osterwalder business model framework and Lean Six Sigma, as well as expanded sections on leveraging business architecture in conjunction with case management and business process management.

The BIZBOK™ Guide Part six has been introduced to address business architecture / IT architecture alignment. New sections address business architecture and enterprise architecture, including DoDAF and TOGAF alignment; business architecture and requirements analysis, business architecture and application portfolio management; business architecture and Services Oriented Architecture; business architecture and data architecture; and business-driven business / IT transformation. Additional updates include the early addition of industry reference models, an updated glossary, and various other refinements.

The BIZBOK™ Guide will continue to evolve based on member forums for advanced and interest–based discussions, feedback webinars, collaboration groups and Guild sponsored events. Future releases will continue to reflect best practices as business architecture continues to deliver business value to organizations worldwide.

The Guild Community is a replacement for our current forums. It is a private online community designed specifically for professional associations. Our goal in providing this space is three-fold.

1. We want to build a stronger association for business architecture practitioners from all over the globe.

We want to provide improved and increased opportunities for our members to provide feedback and input to the BIZBOK™. We have established a collaboration team focused on developing our information sharing practices and enabling our collegial, contributory relationships within the Guild Community.

3. We want to be the place-to-go for Business Architecture knowledge. We are creating A Guide to the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge (BIZBOK™) specifically in support of that goal, and with the addition of the Community we will be able to cultivate a high quality repository of Business Architecture knowledge. In addition to enhanced opportunities for a more sophisticated, satisfying level of discussion than you can find elsewhere, the community provides valuable content management tools such as tagging, search, topic hierarchies, content ratings, file libraries, etc. We hope to make the professional development of Business Architects lot simpler and more rewarding with our collected and maturing knowledgebase.

July 2nd, 10 a.m. PT – The Business Architecture Guild announces the addition of four new board members.
Group Forums moved to Member Pages, What's New at the Guild Blog, New whitepaper added

Group Forums are moved to the Member pages. Most of our members signed up for groups when they registered. Many signed up for several. You can create topics, new groups and talk privately.

The Guild Blog is ready for guest bloggers. We've got a post up from Advisory Board member Steve Dean. Read it, make a comment, ask a question, or just say Hi. We are releasing a new blog post about every month. If you are interested in blogging for us, starting early next year, contact admin@businessarchitectureguild.org.

We've added a new whitepaper on Business Architecture and sustainability to our Resources page, written by co-founder Whynde Melaragno. We think many of you will find this paper really interesting. (We've "gone Green" in a smaller way here at the Guild, by releasing our early work in progress content digitally. When Handbook 2.0 arrives, Handbook 1.0 will be archived - no paper waste.) The whitepaper discusses the concept of sustainability and relates it to the implementation of Business Architecture in several ways. The link is posted at the Business Architecture Forum for discussion and comment.

Business Architecture Guild Announces the Inaugural Edition of the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge Handbook in Conjunction with Opening of Guild Membership to the Public

Top of Form

August 24, 2011 - The inaugural edition of the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge Handbook™ was released today to members of the Business Architecture Guild. The release is based on the collaborative effort of a cadre of business architecture experts with input from an expert Advisory Board of corporate, government, academic and industry leaders. The Handbook is an evolving, living document that will continue to develop over time in response to the input, experiences and needs of practitioners in the field. In conjunction with the inaugural release, the Business Architecture Guild is pleased to announce that application for the Associate Level membership in the Guild is now open to business architecture practitioners and those interested in the field of Business Architecture.

According to William Ulrich, a founding member of the Guild Board of Directors, “The Business Architecture Guild is not only publishing a comprehensive, meaningful and evolving Body of Knowledge that incorporates feedback from practicing business architects, but is also providing a professional membership community that offers opportunities for ongoing knowledge sharing and networking.”

The Business Architecture Body of Knowledge Handbook™ organizes best practice-based disciplines into an easy to use handbook specifically aimed at the business architecture practitioner.

Included in the inaugural release are the Table of Contents, Introduction section, Capability Mapping section, Value Mapping section and the Business Architecture Glossary. A feedback structure is provided with the Handbook. With input from members, the Business Architecture Guild is planning a second release with more content for the fall of 2011. Members of the Guild will find that the Handbook is a sustainable, easily accessible online publication that they can refer to on a frequent basis.

Using the Body of Knowledge Handbook, practicing organizations will be able to quickly understand business architecture and begin to apply this important discipline to priority business challenges across a number of different business scenarios. Neal McWhorter, Jim Rhyne, Mike Rosen, Greg Suddreth and William Ulrich are the primary authors of the Handbook. They are practicing business architects who work closely with organizations to develop business-driven solutions across a variety of industries and government environments.

Membership in the Business Architecture Guild offers more than just access to the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge Handbook™. In addition to actively seeking feedback from members on the Handbook, the Guild has created an interactive website with discussion forums, a searchable member directory to promote social networking and other opportunities for members to form an online community where they can connect, share ideas, learn from one another and help to expand the practice of business architecture.

Diana Krohn, the Business Architecture Guild’s first member, stated that ”For anyone interested in business architecture, already working in the field, or exploring the idea of becoming a business architect, the Business Architecture Guild provides a member-based community where knowledge of the field can be shared and expanded. This is an exciting milestone in the formalization of the business architecture practice and its community."

The Business Architecture Guild is a not-for-profit corporation.
